LIL BIT AND BIGGIE SMALLS
ADOPTED 2017 AND 2019
We adopted our first dog, Lil Bit, from a litter of rat terriers rescued from Georgia back in August 2017. This past July, her brother was returned to Cape Ann Animal Aid and we immediately went to adopt him. We felt like it was fate that Biggie Smalls was back and available for adoption. Since adopting Biggie, Lil Bit and Biggie are happy as can be together! I definitely believe they know they are brother and sister. The two of them are constantly playing or snuggling. Cutest things ever! Although they do get into trouble together. Our nick name for the dynamic duo is the "rat terrors"! We love our two little rat terriers. Biggie is such a sweet guy. He has quickly become a great little hiker, joining us on our adventure to hike all of the NH 4000 footers. It is amazing to see the two of them together and we know they love being united. Thank you Cape Ann Animal Aid for completing our fur family! - April S. |
ABBY (NOW MIA)
ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 2019
Bryan and I decided we wanted to adopt a dog. After a lot of research, we decided we wanted to rescue. On Sunday September 15, we got to Cape Ann Animal Aid at around 11:30 am (30 minutes before they opened) we were so excited at the idea of bringing home a fur baby. We ended up being second in line and when the shelter opened we walked in and up the stairs to meet the dogs. I immediately saw Mia (formally known as Abby), her tail was wagging and she looked like she was smiling. She was also in there with her brother- the people before us actually came to get him. I noticed on Mia's paperwork it said "Pending Adoption", I thought maybe it was a mistake what was the harm in asking? Sadly a volunteer informed me Mia was already adopted and her family was going to be picking her up the next day. Bryan and I were upset- but at least she was going to a forever home. We looked around the shelter and didn't see any that would fit with our lifestyle. As we were leaving one dog did catch my eye, a volunteer and her daughter were petting her. But after i read her card it said she would do best in a home with another dog. Just as Bryan and I were about to leave to go to the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA. Another volunteer came up to us and said Mia's family just called and decided they weren't going to adopt her, so if we wanted we could take her out. We did and we immediately ended up falling in love with her and took her to her forever home. - Jocelyn and Bryan F. |
FIONA (NOW SADIE)
ADOPTED 2019
Trevor was my 13 year old rescue lab mix from Kentucky. He was my constant companion who was always there for me through the pain of my fibromyalgia. He beat cancer in January and we hoped he would be with us for a few more years. Trevor unexpectedly died in my arms on August 31, 2019. My three sons and husband know how much I loved Trevor and how much I needed a dog. Not just any dog.....a special dog who would lie by my side on those painful days. One of my sons had already adopted two dogs, Kona and Lila from Cape Ann Animal Aid, and suggested I take a look. I brought a friend with me, just in case she may want to adopt, too. I had looked on the website for available dogs and saw there were some lab mix dogs available. I asked to see Fiona and it was an immediate match! She came home with me, that day! My friend adopted Sylvie! Fiona, now named Sadie, kissed my tears away as I thought of Trevor. She instinctively knew that I needed her as much as she needed me. She cuddled up next to me on my bed and her little body leans against my legs. Somehow she knows that this will help the constant pain that I have. We have a large back yard that is completely fenced in. Sylvie (formerly Fae), Lila (formerly Daisy) and Kona (formerly Willie) come to visit Fiona and run through the grass, romping and playing and lapping water from the big silver bowl. They tumble, chase each other and play tug of war until a rest is needed under the shady pine tree. In the summer we will all visit our summer home on Long Beach in Rockport. I am so grateful for all 4 of these great dogs, but especially for my Sadie who was patiently waiting for me to come through the door. A DNA test revealed that she is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Labrador Retriever, and a Border Collie. It really doesn't matter what breeds make up this little ball of fur and love. What does matter is that we found each other. -Jeanne M. |
ROBIN (NOW BEAR)
ADOPTED DECEMBER 2017
We got Bear as soon as I saw how playful he was with his sleeping companion. I picked him up and he purred so loud that we heard him from across the room. He purred like our deceased Mr. Knibbles! He turned out to be a long-haired part Maine Coon cat who likes to run after feather toys and play hockey with ice cubes. He turned out to be the best companion for our other cat Snow White. We got her a bit late for Knbbles to stay active, but we did get Bear early enough to keep SnowWhite active and I believe they both care for each other now. Our vet says they are both healthy! - Daniel C. |
SASHA (NOW PRINCESS)
ADOPTED AUGUST 2019
Our beloved Milo passed away back in 2010 and we just hadn’t been ready for another cat since. Then our neighbor came home with a kitten adopted from your shelter and we got the kitten-bug. We soon visited Cape Ann Animal Aid and although Sasha was a little nervous, we could tell she was friendly. She looked a lot like Milo, too, which makes us love her even more. Our son renamed her Princess and showered her with everything pink he could find. She is definitely “his cat”. She is getting more comfortable and trusting with the rest of the family every day, and she is so playful, adorable and sweet. We look forward to many years of love with her. - Delia S. |

HARRIET
ADOPTED AUGUST 2019
My 11 year old daughter, Katelin, always wanted a cat that she could play with and pet all the time. My daughter went to a shelter near our home. It was so busy that all the cats were gone. Katelin was so, so sad. THANK GOD a nice lady at the shelter saw my daughter's sad face. The women said in a whisper to my daughter "try Cape Ann Animal Aid, they may have a few cats." My daughter rushed up there with her grandparents. As soon as she saw Harriet in the cage, she knew it was her cat. Katelin immediately went into the cage and Harriet CONSTANTLY rubbed against her and purred. Katelin and Harriet are inseparable. As you can see in the picture, Harriet watches over Katelin like a sheepdog! Thank you for making this child so happy. (P.S. Our other cat, Batman, can finally get a rest from all the hugging and petting. He likes his quiet time!!! Lol!) - Neil S. |
PETTY ALEJANDRA (NOW NEVA)
ADOPTED DECEMBER 2018
I got Neva right before Christmas and she has been the best present yet! She is full of spunk and fire. She loves to jump on the dog and playfully chase the bunny! I am grateful to have found her. She is the perfect cat for our family. She brings so much joy to our lives and I appreciate all Cape Ann Animal Aid did to make the process easy to give her her forever home! - Stacey G. |
ROXXY (NOW SIMBA)
ADOPTED AUGUST 2019
My fiancé and I were looking for a fun, friendly puppy to join our little family. My fiancé saw Roxxy on the Cape Ann Animal Aid website and we figured we’d go look. As soon as we saw him, we fell instantly in love with him. We played with him for a little bit and knew we wanted to take him home. We already had a new name picked out for the cute puppy. Before we knew it Roxxy became Simba and Simba became our cute puppy. Today Simba loves his home and all his toys. He is now 5 months old and living the life he deserves with lots of fun toys, walks, and fun trips to pet stores and dog parks. He gets plenty of attention from everyone he sees on both sides of his new family and even from people he meets on walks. Simba’s also started in training classes a few weeks ago and is learning a lot of good tricks and commands. We love having him as a part of our family and can’t wait to see what adventures we'll go on next -- such as camping, all kinds of fun holidays, and many more! - Brian L. |
BENJAMIN
ADOPTED JULY 2019
I drove up to Cape Ann Animal Aid from Pepperell, MA specifically to see this black cat named Benjamin I was going on a picture and that was a lot to ask for because I was looking for a specific cat that interacts with people in a unique way. A cat that was similar in nature to my old cat, Stitch, who had passed away. When I met Benjamin, I knew instantly that he would be going home with me. We hit it off right away. Benjamin is the cat I was looking for. I feel I could have looked for this cat forever and never have found him. I did not want to come home with a cat if it was not exactly the cat I was looking for. Benjamin is exactly that and so much more! He is an active cat that follows me from room to room, always wanting to be with me. When I come home from work or just being out, I can hear him running down the stairs to greet me! Our eye contact is something special. He reads me just by looking into my eyes. We play hide and seek and ball games etc. Benjamin is an extremely smart cat and I am so glad I did not wait and lose him to someone else. I do believe this cat was meant for me. - Stephen S. |
ONIX (NOW OLIVER)

He adjusted so well to his new surroundings and his sister, 12 year old Pug, Zoe. He loves to give kisses and and play. Thank you Cape Ann for helping us find our handsome little guy! - Amanda P. |
BREWSTER

We saw Brewster on Petfinder and definitely wanted to meet him. We made the trip from Dracut to Gloucester to see if he would be our forever pet. And indeed he was. We knew right away that he was the dog for us. He has definitely become part of our family and we enjoy every moment with him. He is a loving and gentle dog. we are so fortunate. He is such a joy. MIDNIGHT LORD (NOW CROWLEY)
HENRY
ADOPTED MARCH 2018
We adopted Henry about a year ago. With each passing month, we gained his trust and he has become so affectionate. He's a funny and vocal boy who wants to play with every person or dog he meets. In the morning, he army crawls down the hallway with his special wake-up call (bark/growl combination) to awaken his family. Our other dog, Daisy, loves having a little brother -- and we love him too. Thank you Cape Ann for rescuing Henry so we could adopt him. - Laura T. |
