FOSTERING FOR CAPE ANN ANIMAL AID
We are accepting applications for Foster Caretakers! Please read our Foster Job Description, and if you are interested in participating, please fill out a Foster Application. Please note that we are seeking fosters who live in Essex County. After your application has been reviewed, you will be contacted about attending a virtual foster orientation.
The most common question I get as a foster is “aren’t you afraid you’ll get attached?”......my answer is “Well it wouldn’t be the worst thing if I find a soulmate, but I go into each foster knowing they are not mine I’m just helping them feel safe and getting to understand their individual personalities to help them get best matched with their furrever home.” Sure animals are adorable but when looking to adopt wouldn’t you want to know if they would be a great fit into your home? That’s my job - to best describe their personalities and needs to make their adoption into a safe loving home a success.
Cape Ann Animal Aid provides EVERYTHING needed to foster... As a foster all you need to provide is a safe loving environment and practice patience while helping animals find furrever homes! You can foster as long as you like, and you can chose who you're willing to foster, should a certain foster not be a good fit for you (I have NEVER encountered this situation but it’s good to know) you can always return them to the shelter. We want to make sure the animals are in environments that work for both them and the fosters to get the best results. I highly recommend becoming a foster with Cape Ann Animal Aid to anyone who has a little bit of space, time, patience & tons of love to give these animals who need it! Thank you Cape Ann Animal I’m furrever greatful to be a foster with all the amazing staff there! ~Christina |
FOSTER FAQ
Q: What kinds of fosters do you need?
A: We are in need of fosters of all kinds! Families interested in taking home cats, a pair of kittens, adult dogs, and puppies are encouraged to apply. Whether or not a family is assigned a foster pet will depend on the number of animals in shelter in need of a foster home.
Q: I'm approved, have attended the Foster Orientation, and have submitted my paperwork! When can I expect to be contacted to foster?
A: Our foster needs vary greatly depending on our shelter population and the number of fosters we have lined up. We will be in contact with you when we have an animal(s) in need of foster that would be a good fit for your home!
Q: Why are you seeking fosters from Essex County?
A: Some of our fosters are still in need of medical attention (booster vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, etc.), and we will require our fosters to bring animals back to the shelter during their foster period to have those things done. We also require hand-offs with new adopters to be done at the shelter. Therefore, it's much easier to coordinate medical care and adoption hand offs when our foster families are close to the shelter. In the event of a medical emergency, we also want our fosters to be close by so they can head straight to the shelter to be seen by the vet team.
Q: What am I expected to provide for my foster?
A: Love and attention! CAAA will provide you with all the supplies you will need for your foster, including food, bedding, crates, treats, and toys. You are not expected to purchase anything for your foster pet.

"So far in 2020 we’ve fostered 25 animals! While each one has been unique and special, every single one has brought joy, laughter, and fun into our household. During this crazy year - we say our foster animals have saved us! They are a source to de-stress, and they bring constant entertainment plus a deep sense of purpose. We think back to our very first foster experience and can’t quite imagine our lives without them in it." -Leslie F. CAAA Foster
