MIMI (NOW MAISY)
ADOPTED NOVEMBER 2023
I started volunteering at Cape Ann in June of 2023. I adopted my first kitten (Piper) in August of 2023 to replace a dear cat we had lost almost a year ago. My husband was very jealous of how much Piper loved me and wanted a kitten that loved "him". So he came with me one day on my shift and fell in love with MiMi, now Maisy. She is unbelievably lovable and she and Piper are the best of friends, sharing window seats, sleeping together and loving each other. Best of all, Maisy is my lap cat. She jumps up on my lap whenever I sit down and she sleeps by my feet at night, while Piper is up around my neck. Sleeping has become a thing of the past but I wouldn't trade it for anything having these two adorable bundles of fur to love. Maisy is also in the Americas Favorite Pet contest to maybe be featured on the cover of Modern Cat so watch for her! -Michelle P. |
SHRAPNEL (NOW SCRAPPY)
ADOPTED DECEMBER 2023
Scrappy was very nervous and timid when he came to us he is now my very best friend he's always right beside me. He feels safest when he's with me. He's getting training to be a service dog - we take him out into the stores and at first he shakes a little bit and then he's fine. He is an absolute wonderful addition to our home he is almost 6 months and 75 lb so I think he will be a big boy and I just want to say thank you thank you thank you. -Renee R. |
KAHULA (NOW SASSAFRASS)
ADOPTED JANUARY 2024
We were looking for a kitten which is no easy feat, but with two lively toddlers an older cat didn’t seem like a good fit. We came to Cape Ann Animal Aid and waited patiently to look at the available kittens. There were three of them and two seemed pretty shy. The kitten we ended up taking home with us came right to the bars on the cage to say hello. She was purring before we even took her out and knew she was a people-oriented cat which is a must. She’s done great with us and it’s like she always knew how to be a house cat. She’s been so so patient with our kids who want to love on her so bad but are learning good boundaries. She’s such a snuggle bug and for an already busy mom having an easy transition to as a definite plus. -Amy G. |
STORMY (NOW PEEWEE)
ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 2008
I adopted PeeWee, a toy poodle, when he was 6 months old. He became my best friend and constant companion. We loved and adored each other. He was the most wonderful little guy! On January 11th he passed away in my arms. We had 15 years and 10 months of joy and happiness together and I will love him and miss him always. -Susan D. |
LEO
ADOPTED MARCH 2022
I adopted Leo when I was a senior in college, living alone and just wanting a companion. It has been almost two years since I took my little pit mix home and it has been nothing but fun and enjoyment. Leo was 8 weeks when he was adopted and now just celebrated his 2nd birthday! He loves cuddles, going on walks, his brother and sister Pearl and McGinness, and his mommy of course! It’s been wonderful seeing him grow into the handsome boy he is! -Erica D. |
BUZZ BEE (NOW NOEL)
ADOPTED DECEMBER 2023
In the past I have adopted two brother kittens that are now 2years old from Cape Ann Animal. I wanted to adopt another and that's when Noel (aka Buzz Bee) came into our lives. She is so playful and full of energy. Her brothers were quiet, very shy cats and they sometimes stayed to themself. Not anymore, Noel has brought out the kitten in both boys and filled our home with very playful cats and lots of cat races. Snuggles are plentiful and purrs are loud and constant. She was a blessing to us all. -Kathy C. |

CRAIG AND CONNERY (NOW SAL AND ENZO)
ADOPTED JANUARY 2023
We adopted brothers Craig and Connery (now Salvatore “Sal” and Lorenzo “Enzo”) a year ago. They are the sweetest boys and bring us immense joy. They love to play with each other, they cuddle a lot and Enzo always makes sure Sal has clean ears! Although they are both very friendly, they have very different personalities. Enzo tends to be a bit more cautious, whereas Sal never hesitates to be in the center of everything. They love to snuggle with us on the couch. Always belly up, so they can get belly rubs. They make us laugh every day with their crazy antics. I can’t imagine life without them. -Lynne B. |
DUNKIN (NOW SHELSI)
ADOPTED MAY 2023
In my journey of adopting Shelsi, formerly known as Dunkin, a beautiful tale of companionship and joy unfolds. My long-held dream of having a dog, a desire that had remained unfulfilled since childhood, finally found its realization at Cape Ann Animal Aid, far from my homeland of Ukraine. This dream took on new significance amidst the turmoil back home, offering a beacon of hope during a time of deep personal distress. The discovery of Dunkin on Petfinder was a moment of instant connection. Despite initial uncertainties with It Takes A Village Rescue NC, where I foud him at the first, a serendipity led me to CAAA, a decision that would change my life for the better. Dunkin, renamed Shelsi, became not just a pet, but a soulmate, bringing immense joy and comfort into my life. Together, we explored the beauty of New Hampshire, the playful shores of Singing Beach, and the serene parks around Salem. Each adventure with Shelsi helped to heal and fill my heart with happiness. Shelsi's sociable nature endeared him to many winning the hearts of both humans and fellow dogs. His joining the Healthy Hounds doggy daycare marked a new chapter of fun and camaraderie. Watching Shelsi grow from a little love-bug into a big boy has been a journey filled with wonder and affection. Even Yava, my cat, initially hesitant, has begun to accept and almost befriend Shelsi, marking a harmonious coexistence in my home. My story with Shelsi is a testament to the healing power of love and companionship, a bond that continues to flourish with each passing day. -Olga G. |
ERIK (NOW LEO)
ADOPTED DECEMBER 2023
My kids and I went to CAAA in hopes of adopting an older cat. We met Erik, now Leo, and my kids instantly fell in love. He’s young and has the best personality. Since the day we brought him home he’s been a love bug, too good to be true. My kids are 5 and 8 and Leo lets them carry him around, kiss him, snuggle him, and is purring thru it all. We are so lucky to call Leo our kitty. Thanks CAAA. -Jennifer D. |
CASHEW
ADOPTED AUGUST 2019
We were dearly missing a former beloved furry companion in August 2019 and impulsively went over to CAAA in search of a kitten. Little did we realize it was “Clear the Shelters" Day. There were many people there and only a handful of kittens. One little kitten caught our eye but was a bit skittish around us. He promptly cuddled up on the collar of another guest and was quickly adopted. Then we noticed a young brown Tabby cat who was talking to us from across the room. She was so soft and cuddly we decided to bring her home on the spot. We learned that the adoption fees were waived that day but made the donation we were prepared to pay. We found out Cashew was a young cat under a year found in Georgia while pregnant with kittens. At the Georgia shelter she was called Honey BBQ. As she made her way north to Virginia - her name was changed to Cashew and when she delivered her litter they were all given nut names: peanut, walnut, pistachio, pecan…needless to say all her kittens were quickly adopted leaving her behind. We kept the name Cashew because we loved her back story. Over the years we have adopted from other shelters but CAAA has been the nicest process - they even called a few days later to see how Cashew was doing. We were able to say she was settling in nicely. Today she is sitting on the couch as I write this - a wonderful furry companion! -Denise F. |
TUCKS
ADOPTED FEBRUARY 2023
Tucks joined our family in February. He's brought nothing but love and joy into our lives ever since. Each day is a new adventure exploring the many nooks and crannies in our home. He also enjoys watching the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, (you name it) from the comfort of his cat tree, couch or favorite chair. How lucky we were to find this sweet little cat who we grow to love more and more with each passing day. Many thanks to Cape Ann Animal Aid for all the wonderful care they provide. -Ellen & Bob R. |
OLD DAN (NOW DANNY BOY)
ADOPTED NOVEMBER 2023
Hello! Old Dan is another success story for shelter dogs - handsome, healthy and happy! Whether a breeder or shelter dog, Jerry sees the soul of a dog through its eyes and knew immediately Old Dan was pure - a purely perfect puppy. With an Irish tweak to his name, now Danny-Boy, this stray is no longer without a home or an uncertain future. He especially steals your heart when he wants a treat - he runs into the kitchen, sits quietly, staring up at the bin of treats on the counter until someone eventually comes to his aid. Too adorable! His lovable, sweet character is also energizing for his senior brother, Tuukka, who is expertly teaching his new playmate the ropes. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for all the work they do. The dogs were so well adorned - obvious by the many goodbyes Old Dan received. This was an outstanding experience all around; CAAA is highly recommended. -Jerry B. |
OSCAR
ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 2022
I adopted Oscar 15 months ago and every day is an adventure! After a bumpy two weeks of adjustment, Oscar settled in and took over the household. This young firecracker loves to romp and run and conducts his own version of “neighborhood watch” from every window in the condo. Oscar has explored the tops of my kitchen cabinets, the interiors of every closet, and finds the washing machine and bathtub especially fascinating. Every day is an adventure with Oscar who likes to shake his magnificent tail before settling down next to me on the couch for a Bruins game on TV. He is healthy, happy, and spicy! We have a lot of fun! -Beverly L. |
MISTY
ADOPTED OCTOBER 2023
Hi! I wanted to give an update on how Misty is doing. She is doing great! She has, surprisingly, become a lap cat! She lets me pet her softly and scratch her face and chin, which she loves! She does get to a point where she no longer wants to be touched and she lets me know with a hiss and a scratch. I'm learning her moods/behavior still! I made her a heated window seat that she really enjoys as well as another window hammock. She has a bed I put up on the top of one of my cabinets that she sleeps in at night. She also has a couple of out-of-the-way cubbies I made for her, one heated, that she enjoys as well. I'm so glad I adopted her and she seems to be very happy! -Anne B. |
DAISY (NOW SWEET PEA/SWEETIE)
ADOPTED DECEMBER 2023
After months of searching for my new best friend, I saw Daisy's picture online and immediately went to see her in person at the shelter... as soon as I saw her and she looked up at me with her sweet, soulful eyes I instantly knew I had found my fur ever friend. The staff and volunteers at the shelter were beyond helpful and I can't thank them enough. I signed the papers, ran out to buy supplies and then picked her up. I hope I picked the right name for her... how to you pick a name for your soulmate that's captured your heart? -Marcie M. |
